Healthcare Considerations for the Pregnant and Postpartum Patient

Course Objectives

  1. Describe the ways in which pregnancy affects patient care.
  2. Differentiate normal from abnormal lab values in pregnancy.
  3. Identify signs and symptoms indicating possible pregnancy complications.
  4. Discuss the medical management and nursing care typically provided in response to the most common complications of pregnancy.
  5. Summarize relevant patient teaching offered to patients with gestational diabetes.
  6. Name the complications that can arise when amniotic membranes rupture prematurely.
  7. Discuss issues related to preterm labor and birth.
  8. List the most common postpartum complications.
